Finding a good vet is about more than convenience. You'll want a practice that's transparent about pricing, clear about who owns it, and able to see your pet promptly. Start by searching your postcode or city to see what's nearby — then look at whether prices are published, whether the practice is independent or part of a corporate group, and what other pet owners say.
A few things worth checking:
The UK vet market has changed significantly. Around 60% of practices are now owned by a small number of corporate groups — including IVC Evidensia, CVS, and Vets4Pets. That's not always a bad thing, but it's worth knowing. Independent practices often have more flexibility on pricing and tend to have longer-serving staff. Vet prices vary significantly — sometimes by hundreds of pounds for the same procedure, within the same town. Where practices have published their prices, we show them on the practice listing. You can compare vet prices near you using our search tool. From September 2026, all vets in the UK will be required to publish a standard price list under CMA rules — so this data will grow significantly.
